Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus Bird Painting in Gouache Gouache on Watercolour Board 1983 14 x 12 ins private collection
A Photorealism Bird Painting of an Oystercatcher. This Shore-Bird is one of the more popular and distinctive of the Waders with its bold black and white plumage, and bright red bill.
Photorealism Bird Painting Technique: The finish on this Painting is not as high as some of the other Bird Paintings in the series - I wanted to make it look like a hybrid of Photorealism and Impressionism. There is also some white in the paint mix which is unusual for my work.
Note how the underside of the Oystercatcher reflects the colour of the rocks and how the light hits the back of the bird, making it look less like a solid 3-D object.
