I worked pretty much wage-free on IMPACT Magazine in its
early days in South Wales in the 1980s.
It was good to learn some basic graphic design skills and to
get into a number of music gigs for free - The Damned, Doctor
& The Medics, Nico, and Gary Numan to mention just a few.
Many of my music and fashion photos featured in the mag,
and I got to work on several page spread designs using cut &
paste in the old fashioned way. No computers then, all the
typesetting was sent out to be done by professionals!

The spattered paint effect in the background
of this Magazine Cover Design was inspired by
New Order's Temptation single cover designed
by Peter Saville.
The Fashion Photos of Wayne were taken in
a local fashion shop using an old Manual focus
Praktica LTL SLR 35mm Camera.

The cover of Issue 3 featured lead singer
Tim Williams of South Wales Pop Band Darshan.
I used to roadie with them for a while around the
clubs of West Wales and photographed a few
of their live gigs.
I also designed the cover for Darshan's double
A-side cassette single called The Millstream
Tapes. The tracks were: Passion Flow and
Let Me Love You.
