A Photorealism Bird Painting of a Buzzard in autumn. This large Bird Of Prey belonged to Dr. Nick Fox, world renowned author and expert in Falconry and Hawking.
The Buzzard was tethered by leather jesses to a nearby bow perch but I chose to omit them from the painting to give the impression of it being a wild bird.
The picture is painted in oils using Liquin (a product made by Winsor & Newton) as a fast-drying medium which allows for transparent layers to be applied in quick succession. The support is medium density fibreboard (MDF) given several coats of pure white gesso.
The Buzzard is the most common Bird Of Prey in the UK. I think this one was a female though apart from size (the male is slightly smaller) there is very little to differentiate visually between the two.
Common Buzzard - head detail.
