Female Blackcap Bathing Sylvia atricapilla Bird Painting in Gouache on Paper
Gouache on Paper 1980 3 x 3 ins (Whereabouts unknown).
A small Gouache Bird Painting of a Blackcap produced with a postage stamp design in mind. The style was inspired by the work of English Watercolour Bird Painter Michael Warren.
The Blackcap is a sparrow-size species of warbler. The male has a melodious song and is known as the "northern nightingale". The female is depicted here bathing and contrary to its name has a brown head.
The Blackcap Bird Painting was painted when I was a student at Barnsley school of art and it helped me to become accepted onto the Wildlife Illustration course at Dyfed College of Art in Carmarthen, Wales in 1981.
