Peacock Butterfly (Inachis io) Gouache Insect Painting
Gouache on Paper 1980 6 x 5 ins whereabouts unknown
A Gouache Painting of a British Peacock Butterfly using an actual live specimen as reference.
Butterfly Gouache Painting Technique: The Peacock Butterfly is painted life-size onto an olive green coloured textured Ingres paper. White paint is used for the lighter areas and highlights. The green of the paper is allowed to show through in parts and gives a unifying element to the Painting.
The Peacock Butterfly gets its name from the four eye spots on the wings which look like those on Peacock tail feathers.
The picture was produced when I was an Art student at Barnsley School of Art and helped to get me a place on the Wildlife Illustration course at Dyfed College of Art in Carmarthen, Wales.
I have painted other Butterfly Paintings in recent years but have not kept a photographic record of them.
A Signed Greetings Card is available of this Painting click here
