Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca Photorealism Bird Painting in Gouache
Gouache on Watercolour Board 1983 14 x 12 ins private collection
A Photorealism Bird Painting of a Ferruginous Duck seen from above. The dappled sunlight plays upon the water and the Duck almost becomes camouflaged against the ripples which it creates.
The Ferruginous Duck is an irregular autumn visitor to the UK, the one depicted here being part of an ornamental Waterfowl collection.
Photorealism Painting Technique: The Gouache Paint is applied using Watercolour Wash Technique in the lighter areas of the Picture to allow the whiteness of the Watercolour Board to show through. In the darker passages of this Artwork, the Paint is applied in a more opaque way.
This Ferruginous Duck Painting is inspired by the Bird Paintings of Australian Bird Painter / Artist Raymond Harris Ching, a great influence on my Wildlife Art.
