Towards Darfield Acrylic Yorkshire Landscape Painting
Acrylic on Board 2001 6 x 4 ins private collection
A landscape painting looking towards Darfield from the Dearne Valley bypass near Cathill roundabout.
To the right of this scene, out of view is the Old Moor Wetland Centre now owned by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds), landscaped from old coal mining works and considered to be one of the best nature reserves in Britain. Coal mining, once the backbone of local industry is now all but a thing of the past.
I see this landscape on my way home from work each day and the blue sky and sun-bleached grass represent the height of summer.
The acrylic paint is applied quite thickly with a buttery consistency. The heavy brushstrokes form part of the texture and character of this small piece of landscape art.
