Darfield
Church
from Pinfold Lane Landscape Painting in Oil Acrylic on Board 2003 6 x 4 ins private collection
All Saints Church in the South Yorkshire ex-mining village of Darfield, near Barnsley. A small Impressionism Style Acrylic Landscape Painting.
The 100 feet tall tower of the Anglican Parish Church, can be seen rising above the trees. The Acrylic Paint is applied quite thickly and dryly using a cheap, coarse hog's hair brush in an Impressionist Style.
The purple colours used in the road are reflected in the trees and in the Darfield Church tower, and the stone colour of the sunlit tower is also repeated in the road to give a unity to the Painting.
Darfield Fact: The word Darfield comes from the two words, Dere, meaning Deer and Field meaning area of pasture land.
