Cliff Path, Staithes Acrylic Yorkshire Landscape Painting Acrylic on Board 199? 8 x 12 ins private collection
Now available as a postcard An Acrylic Landscape Painting of a windswept whitewashed house at the top of the cliffs at Staithes, a small fishing village near Whitby on the North East coast of England.
The steepness of the path is emphasised by the portrait format of the composition and the diagonal horizon line splits the image into two halves - the empty yet atmospheric sky has as much importance as the roughly painted foreground.
Although not a Photorealism Painting this coastal scene is based on a Photograph and is part of a series of Paintings of the Staithes and Whitby area of North Yorkshire, a favourite place of many Artists.
The empty, slightly mysterious atmosphere of this Picture is reminiscent of the Paintings of the American Artist Edward Hopper.
The sky colours are reflected in the quickly dry-brushed foreground and there are subtle earth colours in the sky giving a quality of light that is often seen around the coast. |
