Whitby
Harbour Ink & Watercolour Yorkshire Scene Painting
Ink & Watercolour on Paper 1999 20 x 15 ins private collection
An Ink and Watercolour Marine Painting of Trawlers and Fishing Boats moored in Whitby Harbour on the North East coast of England Painted in the open air on a cold November morning. Whitby is a very vibrant North Yorkshire Fishing Village and the Harbour is always busy with Boats of all sizes coming and going.
The Ink Drawing was done very quickly onto un-stretched heavyweight Watercolour Paper with an old worn out Felt Tipped Calligraphy Pen containing Waterproof Ink and then loose Watercolour Washes were applied over the Drawing.
There is no great accuracy in the application of the Watercolour Paint making the picture reminiscent of the works of French Painter Raoul Dufy. In most areas of the Painting there's just one single Wash of Watercolour.
Whitby is a popular tourist destination in North Yorkshire and being very picturesque and Olde Worlde is a favourite haunt of Artists. There are a number of small Art Galleries in the town.
