Darfield Fields Yorkshire Landscape Acrylic Painting
Acrylic on Board 2001 8 x 6 ins private collection
A moody landscape painting of storm clouds gathering over the fields close to where I live in Darfield, South Yorkshire.
The scratchy texture is produced by dragging the paint over a roughly painted white ground using a coarse hog's hair brush.
There is a vaguely delineated path leading from the foreground up over the hill to an unseen destination - a compositional device borrowed from the American realist painter Andrew Wyeth, one of my favourite painters.
The sky is painted with Paynes' Grey mixed with white and the foreground is Olive Green with touches of Burnt Umber and Raw Sienna. Stands of trees at the top of the hill are merely hinted at.
