Sketchbook Drawing
A
Cezanne Style Painting of the Garden behind
Wentworth Garden Centre near Rotherham in South
Yorkshire.
A
man looks out across the ornamental
pond
which
has overhanging Japanese Maples.
The small arch shapes
behind
him
are old duck houses,
and the bear used to be
kept in a stone enclosure towards the back of the
Garden.
Painting
Technique:
The Image was first drawn with a fine brush and red
Acrylic
Paint.
The Drawing was allowed to show through to add a
vibrant key
note to the Painting. The composition is based
on circular
and triangular shapes similar to those used by
Cezanne. Some
of the colour and
cross-hatching brush-work
is also similar in
style to Cezanne's Post Impressionist work.
The
Bear Garden, Wentworth Painting was awarded
Commended by
the judges at the South Yorkshire
Open
Art Exhibition at the Cooper Gallery,
Barnsley.
